Jim Wenzel ~ Fire Chief
I started with the Klamath County Fire District No. 1 on January 1, 2008. My experience of more than thirty-three years has helped me focus on the provision, training, education, and administration of fire and emergency services. These experiences have occurred in the four western states of Washington, Wyoming, California, and Oregon, with 16 years at the Chief Officer level. My experiences during that time have ranged from Fire, Emergency Management, EMS, Hazardous Materials, and Rescue, to training, education, supervision, management, administration, and leadership.
My education includes an Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, and a Master’s Degree in Education. Currently, I am nearly completed with my doctoral studies leading to a Ph.D. in Education. Certification as an Executive Fire Officer from the National Fire Academy and California Chief Officer rounds out my education and training background.
In my role as Fire Chief, I perform a wide range of administrative activities related to finances and accounting, marketing and promotion of the Fire District, staffing and personnel operations, and discretionary activities that serve to support effective District business operations. I advise and assist the Board of Directors in planning and policy matters of the Fire District, and direct and participate in the development and implementation of goals, policies, and procedures.
I am honored to be a member of Klamath County Fire District No. 1, and I look forward to serving the citizen-customers of the District. In addition, I want to ensure that we create an environment for our employees to fulfill the mission of district, and to achieve success in their careers.
Thank you,
Jim Wenzel
