Fire Prevention
11th Annual Open House

Thank you for making this year's event such a success!

This year our 11th Annual Open House was a huge success. The theme for this years Fire Prevention week was to practice fire escape plans. All the local elementary schools were provided with a fire escape plan and if returned, the child received a gift. During the open house children had an opportunity to meet with a member of our fire prevention team and discuss how they would escape in the event of a fire emergency. This was not only very fun and educational for the children, it also gave them an opportunity to work with their parents on creating a fire escape plan. We received many great fire escape plan from children ages 3 to 10. To see some of the great work that our local children worked so hard on click here.

The crews of Fire District No. 1 put on amazing live demonstrations for the attendees this year. The attendees enjoyed watching Firefighter/Paramedics extract one of their own crew members from a wrecked vehicle. This gave the attendees an idea of what victims have to go through in the event of an accident and also allowed them to see what type of tools the Firefighter/Paramedics use.

Two types of extrications were performed.

(Click on the thumbnails below to view a larger image. Use your back button to return to this page.)

The first, a rapid extrication gave the attendees an inside view of how a victim is removed from a vehicle when he/she is incapacitated.

The second, an extrication using specialized equipment, such as the JAWS of LIFE showed attendees what happens when a victim is trapped inside a vehicle. This demonstration also gave the viewers an idea of how important it is to remain calm if they are ever placed in this type of situation.

The attendees also enjoyed visiting with Sparky and the crews, and getting tours of the engines, ambulance and the Hazardous Materials truck and trailer.
