Big R Saved by Interior Fire Sprinkler System

 

At almost midnight last night, 911 received a call from an alarm company stating water-flow from a suppression system was activated at Big R Ranch Farm and Home Supply.  Crews arrived in approx 6 minutes and found smoke coming from the eaves.  Upon entry they found three or more sprinkler heads activated over a display case, holding chainsaws and weed-eaters. There was also a small smoldering fire, which was being contained by the sprinkler system. The store received no structural damage and the only fire damage was contained to the display case.  The insurance company is assessing content damaged caused by fire and smoke.

Fire is fast; it can go from a tiny flame to total destruction in as little as three minutes. Fire sprinklers can suppress and often extinguish a fire even before the fire department arrives, giving people time to escape. Sprinklers, along with working smoke alarms can be a life saving addition to business and home fire protection.
